5 Rivers Tour, No single Supplement
This is a great safari for those that want to experience a variety of parks and ecosystems on one safari. You spend time in the Kalahari at Tau Pan Camp, time in the Okavango at Splash Camp, and then move to the Kwando River (same river as the Chobe really) at Lagoon Camp. You finish by crossing into Zimbabwe to Elephant Camp in Victoria Falls where you can visit the falls or enjoy a range of activities based around Victoria Falls town……don’t worry, all complicated transfers will be well taken care of by Khaki and Dust Safaris.
The idea of this bespoke itinerary is to provide you with high quality game viewing experiences without breaking your budget. Further, all these camps are in prime wildlife areas, where you can be assured of no congestion, exceptional wildlife viewing and good service standards.
Remember that you have to travel between December and the end of March (prices over the Christmas period differ), as this is when the special runs.
5 Rivers Tour - Lodge Pack
INCLUDES: 2 nights accommodation in an en-suite chalet, light aircraft transfers, all meals, local brand drinks, activities on offer.
After landing in Maun you will be met by a representative of Moremi Air before flying on to Tau Pan Camp (TP) in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). This is about a 50 minute flight and you will be met at the airstrip and driven to camp OR immediately start a game drive (depending on your arrival time). TP was the first of only two lodges to be built inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The location is inspiring, as the lodge sits on top of an ancient sand dune, overlooking the well-known “Tau Pan’ (a pan is a depression that can hold water). The thatched buildings provide a cool retreat from desert temperatures and the activities here are focused around game drives, looking for desert adapted animals. Make no mistake, you will be located in a prime area of the park where wildlife is all around you!
The area is explored on game drives (no night drives allowed) and these are done in the local Tau Pan area and sometimes on all-day drives to other parts of the park. You will also be offered an activity to walk with a group of local San (Bushmen), learning how they survive in the desert.
The park however, offers something special for visitors and it is one of the most sought after destinations for dramatic sightings and true wilderness – you can sometimes drive for hours in this park without seeing another vehicle – the Tau Pan location is quite isolated!
INCLUDES: 2 nights accommodation in an en-suite room, light aircraft transfers, all meals, local brand drinks, activities on offer.
After a morning activity at TP you will be taken to the nearby airstrip for a flight back to Maun. You will then change plane and connect to the airstrip at Splash Camp in the Okavango Delta. Your guide will pick you up and drive you to camp OR start a game drive immediately. (Note that ALL transfer flights are scheduled only 24 hours in advance, and your times will be communicated to you the day before each inter-camp transfer flight)
Splash is located in the Kwara Concession (adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve) and is run by Kwando Safaris. It is a brand new camp in the Kwara concession that has been built in addition to the new Kwara Camp. The concession is renowned for productive game viewing and this part of your itinerary is to ensure amazing wildlife sightings on game drives. However, it offers 5 different activities all year round (water levels can affect mokoro activities though), so it adds some variety of activities in an Okavango landscape. Your activities at Splash Camp operate with a guide and tracker system – so two guides to help locate animals!
This is an excellent concession for predators and the guides and trackers are dedicated to finding them. Make sure though to find time for a boat cruise as this will be your only chance to spend time on the Okavango waterways (there are permanent channels in this area, but you do have to drive some distance from the lodge to their boat station).
INCLUDES: 2 nights accommodation in an en-suite chalet, light aircraft transfers, all meals, local brand drinks, activities on offer.
After a morning activity at Splash you will be taken back to the airstrip for your light aircraft transfer flight to Lagoon Camp (this is a short 20 minute flight). You will be picked up at the airstrip by your guide and taken to the lodge OR start a game drive immediately (depending on your arrival time).
Lagoon Camp is located in the vast Kwando/Linyanti ecosystem and is again part of the Kwando Safaris portfolio. This means private, unparalleled game viewing in one of Botswana’s best private concessions. This is a “dry land” camp, so game drives are the main focus. The area is particularly known for wild dog sightings, so do discuss with your guide if you want to focus on the aspect of the wilderness. It is however, famous for all-round top quality game viewing of the highest quality and you should be assured of quality sightings during your stay here. The location on a large lagoon also means the camp can offer boat cruises.
Guides work with trackers here and are good at finding animals. You will have a chance to follow predators off road and do a night drive in the evenings when returning to camp.
.
INCLUDES: 2 nights accommodation in an en-suite room, road transfers from Botswana and to VF Airport, all meals and selected local drinks.
A 2 night stay includes a selection of the following activities: sunset cruise (inc. park fee); a tour of the Falls (inc. park fee); an Elephant interaction activity; a visit to the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, lunch at the Lookout Cafe (including drinks); a village tour; game drive in the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary; A Victoria Falls Canopy Tour as well as birding and nature walks in the concession
On your last day at Lagoon and after a morning activity, you will be driven to the nearby airstrip for your light aircraft transfer to Kasane Airport (30 minute flight). From here, you will continue by road transfer to the Zimbabwe border where your driver will guide you through the immigration formalities, before handing you over to another vehicle and driver on the Zimbabwe side of the border. Remember to have your USD cash for your Zimbabwe visa handy as you will pay it at this border! Once through, it is a further 70km drive on a good tar road to Victoria Falls Town and another 15 minutes from there to Elephant Camp.
You can arrange all your activities from Elephant camp (see the selection above). There are other options possible including bungee jumping and white water rafting. Its best to ask for local advice and knowledge and book these through Elephant Camp on arrival.
On your departure day you will be driven to the nearby VF Airport for your departure flight.
Safari ends!
