Ghoha Hills in a Nutshell

This is not your traditional game viewing lodge – rather, it is more like a “retreat” in the bush. Located an hour drive from the game drive area of Savuti, day trips are needed to explore Savuti proper. This lodge is also unique, in that it has been built high up on the Ghoha hills with stunning views of the wilderness below. The pumped waterhole below the lodge has now become a magnet for game, especially elephants.

How to Get There

You can fly into Ghoha Hills from just about any other bush airstrip (this camp uses the Savuti public airstrip which is about a 40 minute drive from the lodge). We like this camp because it is also accessible by road on a self drive safari or as part of your itinerary on a mobile safari.

Game Viewing and Activities

This is a fairly new lodge in a part of the Chobe National Park that does not have any other permanent lodges or campsites. The game drive road network has only just been established and the local predators will take time to habituate. However, the lodge offers day trips to the game drive areas of Savuti and have cut new roads to access this area. (The game viewing in Savuti speaks for itself).

The lodge does have its own waterhole which, at certain times of year, becomes the only water for miles around. This attracts hundreds of elephants and other game which can be seen from a hide close to the waterhole. The new game drive road network around Ghoha Hills allows for a little exploring on shorter afternoon drives and there are some stunning spots for sundowner drinks. We predict, that the local game viewing will improve dramatically over the next few years with the presence of this new lodge.

Ghoha Hills really comes into its own when you consider its location, and what alternative comforts it offers. It is a place where you could end your safari and rather just relax in camp enjoying the views. Indeed, we see it as a place to end your busy schedule of bumping around in safari vehicles desperately looking for game. Instead, put you feet up, have a swim or spoil yourselves in the spa with a massage or treatment.

Camp Environment

This lodge is very new. Thought was taken in its design with all the rooms, main area and swimming pool well placed with dramatic views to the below teak forests and savanah. Further, the camp gets all of its energy from massive (but well hidden) solar panels and is therefore completely eco-friendly. The tent interiors are functional and tastefully decorated with light and relaxing earthy colours. Each unit has a viewing deck and a large forward facing window with views to the below wilderness.

Wifi is available here, to help you touch base with home after a long safari. The spa and gym are well appointed and welcome.

We were impressed by the food here which was elegantly presented and eating felt like an event.
